About Lauford

Wynford and Laurence were both members of the Chartists Folk Rock Band between 1980 & 1990, recording two albums in that decade, namely “The Chartists” and “Cause for Complaint“.

You can review their early musical partnership at the website – http://www.angelfire.com/indie/thechartists/index.htm.

They were also playing together in a four piece outfit called Thin Wallet with Russel Jones and Geoff Cripps during that period.

Since 1990 Laurence and Wynford have kept in touch socially and musically, and for a five year period 2000 to 2005 jointly ran the Platform Folk Club at the Ynysddu Hotel.

Dragging Wyn out of folkie retirement wasn’t easy but he eventually took the bait and was tempted by the route Laurence and Nigel were taking with contemporary songs on Guitar, Bass and flutes .

Wyn brings his talents on guitar (electric, acoustic and bass), mandolin and octave mandola as well as his outstanding songwriting abilities to the band. So well crafted are his lyrics he was once referred to as “the best unknown poet” in the  Welsh valleys .

Laurence favours alternate tunings on the guitar which add a haunting and ringing tone to the mix; contrasting yet complementing Wynford’s bluesy country style.

Nigel has now left the band while we prepare for a revamp of the Chartists Songs in autumn 2011. Laurence and Wynford are joined by Geri Thomas and Andrew Eddy for the Chartists performances.

Laurence and Nigel most recently recorded for Alan Coles’ latest album “Play something we know!” which was released in June 2010.

Lauford’s repertoire includes self penned, traditional and contemporary songs covering a wide selection with something for everyone.
